Celebrating the Success of Bolton Learning Partnership SEND Hub
Bolton Learning Partnership’s SEND Hub has been making significant strides in enhancing support for young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across the borough. Comprising SENDCOs (Special Educational Needs Coordinators) from all secondary schools in Bolton, the hub serves as a vital platform for collaboration, sharing best practices, and ensuring consistency in the identification and support of students with SEND.
A key part of the hub’s work involves a series of focused input sessions designed to broaden knowledge, deepen understanding, and strengthen the provision of SEND support in schools. These sessions have included valuable contributions from a range of specialists. One highlight was a session led by Jenny Wilkinson from the ADHD pathway, offering insights and strategies for supporting students with ADHD. The hub also benefited from expert input by the Ladywood Outreach Service, which shared practical approaches for using sensory circuits in schools – a method that helps children with sensory processing challenges regulate their emotions and behaviour.
Additionally, the hub has worked closely with Bolton’s Early Intervention Team, focusing on early identification of SEND needs and providing timely, targeted interventions for students who may need additional support. The emphasis has been on ensuring that all students, regardless of their challenges, receive the right help at the right time.
One of the core aims of the SEND Hub has been to develop greater consistency in identifying SEND across schools. Through regular collaboration and sharing of best practices, SENDCOs are working together to refine the processes for early identification and to ensure that students are receiving appropriate, high-quality support tailored to their individual needs.
The success of the SEND Hub is also thanks to the strong support provided by the Local Authority SEND team and the Educational Psychology team. The expertise and guidance of these professionals have been invaluable in helping SENDCOs across Bolton develop their practice and ensure that all students have access to the support they need to thrive.
By providing a space for schools to come together, learn from each other, and collaborate productively, the SEND Hub is playing a crucial role in improving SEND provision across Bolton. The commitment and dedication of Bolton’s SENDCOs, along with the support from the wider professional community, continue to make a significant difference in the lives of students with SEND. This ongoing partnership is something to celebrate, as it ensures that every young person in Bolton has the best possible opportunity to succeed in their education.
