Bolton Student Leaders Inspired to ‘Be the Difference’

On July 10th 2025 over 90 Student leaders from 12 secondary schools across Bolton came together for the Bolton Learning Partnership’s first ever student leadership conference, Being the Difference. Held to celebrate youth leadership and inspire community action, the event provided a platform for students to explore how they can lead both within their schools and in the wider Bolton community.

The day began with an inspiring keynote from James Aidoo of Innerscope, who challenged students to reflect on their personal strengths and consider how these qualities could be used to create positive change. With energy and honesty, James encouraged students to move from reflection to action, reminding them that real leadership begins with self-awareness and purpose.

Each school then shared reflections on the leadership work students had undertaken over the past year—highlighting initiatives, campaigns, and student-led projects that have made a difference in their schools. From mental health advocacy and environmental action to school councils, the range of work shared was impressive and inspiring.

The afternoon brought a powerful challenge from Youth Leads, a Bolton born organisation that supports young people in developing social action projects. Students worked in teams to begin designing their own projects to implement in their schools and local communities—focusing on issues that matter to them.

The conference was a powerful reminder that young people in Bolton are not just the leaders of tomorrow—they are the changemakers of today. With passion, creativity, and courage, these students are ready to be the difference.
